Day 1
I
know, I know. Hardly a month since our visit to the Canadian Eastern
Shore, but the call of a fall trip beckoned.
We
started a bit later and had a fairly short driving day through New
York State. No signs and only the aggravation of trying to get
service on our Tracphone (we can't get the long distance line!!!).
We
stayed at the lovely Whitney Point Visitors Centre.
Here's
the (early morning) view from my chair:
Day 2
Leaves
are just starting to change on the Pennsylvania Turnpike as we head
further south. We do see some signs, mostly depicting how "coal
is good" as a source of energy!
We hit
a new state, Delaware, around noon and see the "King of the Way"
church and RV storage! Long journey expected?
I
witnessed a drug transaction at a gas station (no pictures)!
A
little further, we were in Dover Downs, which was preparing for a
NASCAR weekend. The university was advertising parking for RVs. What
a great idea for a fundraiser.
Slaughter
Beach, Slaughter Neck and Broadkill Road signs made us wonder where
we were headed. But we got some cheap liquor anyway!
The
eastern shore was lined with cemented brick spotting towers (later
learned from WW II) which groups are trying to restore.
Got to
Maryland and were welcomed by "Big Pecker's Bar and Grill",
our first Evacuation Route sign and an interesting but time-consuming
route to the Assateague National Seashore.
We
were able to book three nights in A22 and immediately saw wild
horses, Great Egrets and Great Blue Herons in our salt marsh
"backyard". Wow:
