BBB Day 21

March 16

Hiked 1 mile (driving kind of day!)

We left Seminole Canyon and headed to Big Bend National Park.

Our first stop was Langtry, home of Judge Roy Bean:

and his bar and courthouse and Billiard Room all in one:

The place had a beautiful cactus garden which helped us identify some of the things we have been seeing:

Can you see how absolutely beautiful the weather has been for us?

Our drive north led us past lots of Border Patrol vehicles, including a 4-wheeler with the officers scanning the ground for footprints. It’s kind of disconcerting.

The large ranches we were passing held a few goats and some cattle and even some exotics with transmitters attached:

Such a challenge to hunt a creature whose whereabouts are beeped to you! Or, as in many cases, sitting in a hunting blind with feeders 100 yards in front.

It was getting hotter and hotter as we hit Big Bend. The drive down was beautiful; here are some sights:

Two years ago, we never saw a single Blue Bonnet because it was so dry in the Texas Hill Country, and here they were in masses in the desert!

See the panther at Panther Junction?

We got to our campsite with the Spring Break stragglers and enjoyed a beer with a good ole boy and from Kentucky.

We saw our resident Roadrunner:

and a Black-and-white and Orange-crowned Warbler and a Western Bluebird:

Then we enjoyed the sunset and the view from my chair:
