Up
early and out of our very clean park by 8:30. The volunteers were
there, rakes in hand, to tidy up for the next campers!
Back
north a bit then Highway 10 west towards Alabama. We saw more of the
"Bear Crossing" signs we'd seen on our way down. We never
see THOSE in Northern Ontario where we actually SAW a Black Bear
crossing the road:
It
started to pour rain as we headed out of Florida. We could have
stopped at the "Bread of Life Bakery" attached
to the Full Gospel Assembly of God Church. And speaking of churches,
there were FIVE within 1/2 a mile on the Blue ANGEL Parkway.
The
road along the Florida and Alabama coasts was lined with large condo
complexes, high and low rise, and shops and restaurants but seemingly
few people (but it WAS pouring rain).
Gulf
State Park was full so we headed to the Fort Morgan Campground. It's
$35, full of "character" (maybe a little trailer trashy),
but the people are nice and we're glad to be here.
We had
lunch and rode the bikes a few miles to a public beach. The shoreline
is a bit different, but it's nice to be near the beach again. This
place would have been devastated by Katrina (but not our campground
which is on the inland bay side).
On our
dock, we saw Buddy, the resident Great Blue Heron:
Met
another group of Canadians from Hamilton who have been here since
January 25. Did laundry (that's it until we're home). Thinking
of taking the ferry to Dauphin Island with our bikes tomorrow.
Fingers crossed about the weather.
Here's
the view from my chair:
